CACS Awarded ANA Grant!

Comanche Academy Charter School (CACS) has been awarded a three-year, $899,998 federal grant from the Administration for Native Americans (ANA) to fund a community-building and team-based mentor-apprentice program within CACS. This ANA grant will focus on family engagement, apprentice learning, and will place more language speakers within the school. With the required nonfederal share, the total approved project cost is $1,124,998.
With the ANA grant funding, Comanche Academy will bring in personnel to learn Comanche and host cultural nights for our CACS families. We will be hiring new personnel for CACS, including language apprentices and language mentors. These apprentices will work closely with their mentors to study Comanche, then bring it into the classrooms to assist our teachers in their classrooms to ensure our students receive a quality education while learning Comanche passively through their studies. The funding will also bring on personnel to conduct surveys within our community to identify the language needs of our families, so CACS can create deliverables and lessons that can be brought into the home.
We acknowledge the language journey of our learners is difficult with no one to speak Comanche with at home, so this grant will help our families learn and have more language spoken outside of school.
CACS is excited to have more language personnel within the school to help our students learn language as well as create a supportive environment for our families. Moving forward, we will be hosting monthly Family Language classes funded through this grant. Be on the lookout for job opportunities provided by the ANA grant and dates for our Language nights to be posted soon!
